In "Uno Degli Ultimi (One of the Last)", Mauro is a 78-year-old Italian peasant who loves his life. He picks olives, grapes, cherries. He wonders why anybody would want to do anything else.
As his weathered body climbs his ancient olive tree to begin yet another day's work, Mauro wonders why humankind is so neglectful. Gently caressing a grasshopper, he delivers his mantra: humanity misbehaves, and allows the earth and its inhabitants to slowly die away.
Mauro is part of the landscape and he wants it to survive. The beauty he sees on earth is the beauty of Mauro himself. He is one of the last.
